To quantify and compare different agriculture lighting systems, we mainly use 3 criteria:
«Colour spectrum» (Image 1: Grow Led Spectrum), «Total light output» measured in a sphere (Image 2: Integrated sphere) and «Light on target output» measured in a specific configuration (Image 3 & 4: No tent & Mylar tent).
As Secret Jardin designs and optimizes grow room and lighting together, we use «Colour spectrum» and «Light on target output» for reference.

GRAPHIQUE P.A.R. (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) :
This graph shows what part of the light the plant will absorb for its photosynthesis process (Image 5: LP471 vs. Theoretical PAR curve).
P.P.F.D. MEASUREMENTS (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density): Represents the number of photons the plant effectively absorbs, according to its PAR. In this document, we call «PPFD» the count of photons per m2 per second (μmol/m2/s) which will determine the standard harvest per m2 of your grow system. We call «PPFD Target» the count of photons on the grow area per second (μmol/s) which will determine the standard harvest of your grow system.

MEASUREMENTS: We check 9 zones of the grow area (Image 8 & 9: Measurements 2D & Measurements 3D), allowing growers to foresee the potential harvest of their system (“PPFD Target”), which will help them defining the other components of their grow system in correlation with the light chosen.

HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM (HPS)
Mylar tent nearly double the number of photons received on the grow area compare to the same area where there was no tent. Adding Orca sheets brings up to 24% more light to your plants.
Orca tent brings 40% more light to your plant than Mylar tent.
Caution: An OR120 & HPS600w (Image 10: Orca tent) will require 40% more extractions and nutrients than a DR120 & HPS600w. E.g. an OR120 & HPS600W will be comparable to a DR120 & HPS840W.
LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED)
TLED gives similar PPFD than HPS: It is the perfect lighting for 0.2 to 0.8 m2 systems.
Thanks to its low temperature, the device should stay as close as possible to the plant to give best results.
TLED can also be used as a contributor to large HPS systems: Adding 4x TLED26w on the sides of a DR120 & HPS600w brings 16% more light to the sides of your plants (We then advise to use 2x Bloom & 2x Grow).
COMPACT FLUORESCENT LAMP (CFL)
TNeon gives similar PPFD than HPS: It is the perfect lighting for 0.2 to 0.8 m2 systems.
Thanks to its low temperature, the device should stay as close as possible to the plant to give best results. TNeon will be lower investment than TLED but will need more electricity and Neon replacements. We therefore advise TNeon when used part time and TLED when used full time.
